The Priory Philosophy
It may seem flippant, even irreverent, yet it is our business to ensure that living at The Priory is not a prison sentence or even the end of the road, but a new start. A new adventure with new friends, new
ideas, new goals without mundane worries or the inevitable loneliness of advancing years without a partner.
It must be right to leave behind the worries of hoe to mow the lawn, repair the roof, do the shopping and so many other tasks which
it seems only yesterday were so easy. Life at The Priory excludes these concerns and replaces them with the relaxation of knowing that there are staff available at all times to help. The terrors of having a bath disappear and a hot meal becomes
once again a way of life.
It is our task to ensure that every resident reaches his or her full potential, e.g. People who have had frequent falls need encouragement to walk around again, yet when that confidence returns their new freedom
is a joy to behold.
Leaving one's home, often after decades in one place, is a tremendous step requiring enormous courage; yet many elderly people make this choice knowing that it is the correct course of action for them at that time. We
do our best to make this period less traumatic by prescribing loads of tender loving care. Anyone coming into The Priory does so with the knowledge and assurance that, if they wish, it is their home for the remainder of their life. Normal illness
and frailty we cope with as a matter of course. If hospital treatment is required a place at The Priory may be retained until recovery from illness is achieved.
It is not our policy to ask people to leave because they have become "a problem".
